The Cultural Council of Palm Beach County (Lake Worth, Florida) invited Bruce
Helander to jury an exhibition. Announcing: a call to create artwork for a juried show that will be held February 3 through March 18, 2017, at the Robert M. Montgomery, Jr. Building in downtown Lake Worth. This exhibition is open to all residents who live or work in Palm Beach County including, grade school, middle school, high school, college level, senior citizens and professional artists. One submission per artist. Prizes will be awarded. Artwork must measure no larger than 10″ x 10″ x 1″. It is suggested that board be
used as the foundation for the works, although it is not required, and stretched canvas is also acceptable. All two-dimensional media is acceptable for submission including paintings, prints, drawings, photography, collage, textiles, metal, assemblage, ceramic relief and mixed media. Works may be abstract, narrative, figurative, landscapes/waterscapes, still-lifes, portraits, cartoons, graffiti, etc. All works must be installation ready (ready to hang). Judging will be based upon overall quality, creativity and vision of each work.

Delivery:
All artwork to be considered for inclusion into the show will be delivered to the
Cultural Council at 601 Lake Avenue, Lake Worth, Florida, on January 24 and 25, 2017 between the hours of 10am and 5pm. Accepted Work:
Artists will be notified on January 26 if accepted into the exhibition. After work
has been accepted, a substitution cannot be made nor a change in the artwork, sales prices or titles as submitted. Artwork must remain in the Cultural Council for the entire exhibit. No early withdrawals. Any selected work that upon delivery, has been altered significantly (from entry submittal) as to dimensions, scale or color without prior approval from the Cultural Council, will not be accepted into the show. Upon acceptance the artist will receive a loan agreement that must be completed prior to delivery of accepted work. Un-accepted Work:
All work that was not accepted into the exhibition must be picked-up at the
Cultural Council January 26, 27, 28 from 10am-5pm. Any work not picked-up during this time frame will be disposed of at the discretion of the Cultural Council if not picked up by January 28. Awards:
Awards will be provided for 1st, 2nd, 3rd places as well as Honorable Mentions.
Sales:
Works can be listed for sale at a price determined prior to the exhibition opening.
The Cultural Council will retain 25% of any sale. All sales support the ongoing costs associated with the Council’s artist programming. The Cultural Council provides insurance, publicity and assistance in the sale of artworks. Pick-Up:
All artwork exhibited in this exhibition must be picked up March 21 or 22 between
the hours of 10am and 5pm. Artwork not obtained on these dates will incur a storage fee. Please contact the Cultural Council directly if you need to make special arrangements. Timeline:

About the Juror:
Bruce Helander has been a full time artist and critic in Palm Beach County for the past thirty years. He received a BFA and MFA in painting from the Rhode Island School of Design, where he later served as the Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs. He has studied at Yale University and Harvard, and is a former White House Fellow of the National Endowment for the Arts. He recently was inducted into the Florida Artists Hall of Fame, and was a recipient of the South Florida Cultural Consortium’s award for Professional Achievement in the Arts and has won four separate grants from the New York Foundation for the Arts. His work in represented in over fifty permanent public collections, including the Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum, Whitney Museum of American Art and The Metropolitan Museum of Art, as well as the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art and the Los Angeles County Museum of Art. As a critic, he regularly writes for numerous publications such as The Huffington Post, Sculpture magazine, Art Hivemagazine and One Art Nation, among others. He is a seasoned juror and curator of museum exhibitions and serves on the board of the Center for Creative Education.
